Ann Kopka’s 3D projects focus on the concept of reduce, reuse, recycle, ‘making something out of nothing’, while drawing attention to the throwaway nature of consumer society and sustainability. Through research, exploration and process, Ann seeks to transform disposable everyday ephemera and humble discarded objects of little or no intrinsic value into objects of value and beauty. Her method of painstakingly stitching or gluing together hundreds if not thousands of examples of a single shape or object, such as used window envelopes, tea bags, or hole punches generates repetitive rhythms, transforming the visual appearance of the original objects, alluding to surprising new interpretations.
